We all know it was quite a melt down this past weekend, especially with an inch of rain at Chetek on Friday.
The Snow on this is gone for the most part and there was a lot of water on the ice, then slushy.
Reports are there is 16 to 19 inches of ice on the lake, so that is good.
The fact that it froze on Saturday night put a positive note on the ice for preservation.
The weather forecast with temps at or below freezing during the day and low teens at night is positive.
The fact that there is no snow now, will only help to promote the ice thickness this week even with temps in the teens.
We will monitor through Wednesday and see how it does.
As for now, it looks as if this race will go on, so that is positive.
The NSSR crew will head out for track prep on Thursday and double check ice conditions.
Safety for our crew and the racers/spectators is always a top priority.
I guess check the website and facebook later this week, but for now get those hotrods ready.
Thanks!
Ron
The Ice at Chetek appears good with 16 to 19 inches of good ice under what has melted.
Most of the areas have refroze and there is no snow on the ice except for the dusting they received on Tuesday.
There are some pockets of water in various areas as of last night.
We anticipate these continued to freeze up last night and tonight.
The plan is for NSSR Crew to head out on Thursday morning and we will verify the ice conditions along with shaving of the ice for the track.
We should know what we have when we drop the shaver down tomorrow just before lunch time.
Looks good right now and the forecast seems to have settled in to being just below or in the teens after tonight.
Saturday will get warmer with 42 F but the mostly cloudy skies should keep us in good shape if the temp overnight is at 18F.
Unless we find some issues tomorrow, this appears to be a go for Saturday!
See you then.
