To all:

This was posted for the Rules Committee and we have had several responses on the Resetting of Records in the Stock Classes. This was proposed by a few members and has recieved negative response by others.

Resetting of the Records may encourage others to come out and try to set a new record and keep the old record holders coming back to defend.
It also seems that some think a new record in the stock class is not attainable
Other comments have indicated leave them as they are and if we reset each year this is not different than any other circuit.

I am thinking that we leave the system as it is unless I get more of a unanimous feedback to make a change. This is basically how we do most of the rule changes.

Let me know your thoughts on this.

That being said, there are several items that need to be addressed:

1. Confirm class jumping: AS of now I think we will allow in all except stock and improved stock. Class jumping will be allowed to move up within the Pro Stock and Open Mod Classes. Jumping from the Lake racer classes to the Super Mod class is allowed as long as it does not exceed the limits of that class. Going into Exhibition is pretty much unlimited. I Think the new Pro Mod class will be exciting!

2. World Record Resets Annually: This was proposed for all records in all classes.
I am proposing that we annually reset the stock records to attract more racers in these classes. Comments on this are welcome.

3. Four Stroke: How do we make this fit the mods that are happening for Improved and Pro Stock with the motor work. Limit engine mods and look at a new class to handle the exotic motor work. This class is getting a lot of monentum and we need to figure it out soon.

4. I have worked with ISR over the past few months to get some of our rules and classes fit in with the old rules. Next year we will do a whole rewrite of the Speed Run Section.

5. We will be checking chutes this year, so make sure they are in working order. Any sled capable of running over 150 mph or as the rules require must have a chute that is functional. Let me know if you need a contact to get a new one, but Stroud is willing to work with the sled guys to develop chutes for weight and speed so that they are safe.

I wasnt going to respond to this out of respect for Ron and Stacy. It is their organization now and i respect the decisions that they make.

However........

In response to the above comment that the CMSA records should be cleared is pure bull and actually idiotic  . CMSA was built on the backbone of NSSR and it was operated 100% the same as what NSSR is now. In no way were the results achieved under the operation of CMSA any less recognizable than under the umbrella of NSSR. The overall same rulebook is used, the same crew sets up the tracks, the same crew varifies the world records and daily results. You cant tell me that the results achieved under CMSA deserve any less credit than those achieved last year under the NSSR name.

In my mind you can make this organization anything you (the racers) want. If you want to have the respect of a World Record that was earned, then leave things the way they are. If you want to have a Radar Run that you and anyone else can show up and achieve a NSSR record every year because nobody else ran in your class? That is what you can make it. Just how much prestige do you want for making that record?

Enough for now, i think my point is clear enough.

PS. When was the last time that Bonneville Salt flats reset their records because nobody could beat the existing records?

Larry, sorry for calling your opinion idiotic. This subject has always been close to me and i feel it is my responsability to be the voice for the racers that raced for CMSA. My statement about idiotic was out of place. I stand behind the rest of my statement. I understand your opinion and i respect it.

Also Larry, i was in no way implying that your comment was disrespectful to Ron and Stacy. I feel that overall, it is not my place to submit my personal comments here regarding the direction that they take NSSR. If they want my opinion they will ask. And that is why i hadnt responded sooner. But i had to make the statement about CMSA and the equity and merit that the records obtained during that duration stand for.

peace

Good discussion from all on this.

1. It is my opiinion after talking to many and with the posts and emails that NSSR has recieved that we leave the World Records as is. The World Records will remain in 2010 for all classes.

2. Chutes on 150 mph and above. The chutes are safe when designed for the weight and the estimated speed that you will run. Bikes are not a good application for a chute to the best fo my knowledge. NSDRA is talking to NHRA to allow chutes on asphalt sleds also. Talking to Stroud, the concern is based on the days when the chutes were not used for the right application and did stop the vehicle to fast. Sizing for the application is key.
Maybe the 150 mph requirement is a little low for the ice. I would say the 160 mph is a definite. 155? Thoughts on this?

3. I have had numerous calls on the clearance rule we discussed at the rules meeting last spring. There are quite a few sleds that will not meet the 3.5 inch bulkhead clearance rule from the front bumper to the track. All I have talked to are close or will meet a 2.5 inch Clearance rule. I would say based on the comments we will change this to 2.5 inch minimum.

let me know if you have any questions or comments.
Thanks!
Ron
