Folks,
It is looking promising for running at the Lakewoods in Cable on the January 12th date.
PC says there is 10 to 11 inches of black ice with minimal snow on the the Lake now.
Below zero temps will help bring this around quickly.
For now, stay tuned to the racing forum for updates and on Facebook.
In the meantime, PC says there are rooms available and rates for the racers.
At this time the Main Lodge is full with Pre-Booked Snowmobilers, but the trails are not good with the minimal snow and they have seen a 50% cancellation rate as of now.
There are many condos and cabins available, so you may need to team up with other racers and share the cost to stay.
Let me know if there are issues in getting a place to stay.
The Lakewoods Resort is http://www.lakewoodsresort.com and the Toll free number for reservations is 1-800-255-5937 or 715.794.2561
The Address is 21540 County Road M, Cable, Wi, 54821
Call me at 612.360.1280 cell or Stacy at 763.753.2261
Thanks!
Ron
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Cancelled! We plan to move forward on holding this race.
the Folks at the Lakewoods have been out plowing and scraping the track area this weekend.
As of now there is 12 inches of ice with up to 14 in spots, and the snow on the ice is about 2 to 3 inches.
That being said, it is up to each racer on what they do with their equipment.
We are recommending that all rigs lighten up and spread out.
Even better, bring a four wheeler and small trailer to haul your stuff out to the pit area.
What works well is a pop up canopy, small heater, and a tarp side on the wind side to hold the heat.
Pro Side with All Classes, TRail Stock, Youth, and VINTAGE (Stock AA to H classes, plus Mod STock). Race for Points and payback.
The Fun Run side is on also with classes for the Fun Racer in Stock, Improved Stock, Youth, ATV's, MOtorcycles, and VINTAGE
Trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Places.
Good luck and let's get ready to race.
Call at 612.360.1280 if you have questions.
Thanks!
Ron
All,
There is parking close to the ice, and I know there was a group of trailers and trucks parked out where we had the starting area last year.
The track will be in the same location as last year and as the wienie roast site.
We did look at pushing the race a week, but conflicts with crew and other races.
Race is Cancelled!
There is minimal snow on the ice now and the Lakewoods has already plowed the Pro track and parking area.
Latest report is that ice is improving with the lack of snow and cool nights.
Temp on the ice is still good duing the day.
Ron
Race is cancelled!
The NSSR Crew is at the Lakewoods with all equipment.
Checking the ice, we found the following:
All the ice was good Black Ice so it is strong.
However,
Off the Landing we found 9 inches
Approaching the parking area we found 11 inches.
At the Starting Line, we found 13.5 inches.
a few hundred feet to the West we found 9 inches and then 8.5 inches.
In the middle of the track it went up to 11.5 inches.
The end of the track and in the shutdown, we found 8.5 inches.
It is not safe to shave or plow with this ice thickness, as we usually take 1 inch plus off to level out the track.
We will have to plan on Menomonie on the 26th as of now!
I plan to check the ice next weekend at this location to verify the thickness.
Cold weather is coming, so if we don't get much snow in the meantime, this should help!
The Lakewoods is promoting an NSSR Stay special for the weekend, and the trail riding on the lake is good!
Just tell the front desk that "NSSR" is the code word!
Rooms, Food, Bar, and Hospitality is great.
Lake Namakagon is a huge lake.
We have also been told that there is a Pub Run for prizes all weekend!
So grab the trail sleds and come have a good time, then get ready for racing to come!
I apologize for the late notice, but we have to go on what we actually find.
Ron and Crew!
