Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Race this year for Chetek, WI is Cancelled and is not planned to be rescheduled.
We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause and NSSR is very disappointed that it will not happen.
The Winterfest Activities will go on and there is a Bikini Run in the snow along the shoreline on Saturday as this is raising money for a great cause to fight the battle of Cancer. NSSR is planning be present with the Chamber to make this happen at around 1PM on Lake Chetek.
There is still around 19 inches of ice on Lake Chetek in the middle of the lake, with some areas by shore being at 14 inches.
Bottom line is that we did not get the cooler temps during the week that were needed to freeze the lake back up and now with the Saturday forecast to be near 50F and potentially breaking records set in 1896, it was time to concede and let Mother Nature be the Winner.
With warm ice all week and melting continuing, we know this would have been a hugely attended event, but SAFETY has to be the first concern of our racers and spectators.
Enjoy the nice weather with the Family, it will be a nice day, just not for racing.
We look forward to a fabulous year in 2017 and will bring a great venue of Great Places to Race.
Thanks for your support and continued relationship with NSSR!
Ron and Stacy Bray and Crew
Lot of positive comments for NSSR and the Crew! We appreciate your positive attitude.
Safety has to be the first item to be addressed at every race.
We know we would have had a huge crowd of spectators and racers today, just all the folks wanting to do more racing, and it is the end of the season almost.
I sit here on such a beautiful Morning thinking we could have done this thing, but reality is it is getting warm fast and there was still water pockets on the ice yesterday.
Also, the accesses already have water ponded by them, so with a big crowd we would have been standing in water and having to shut the race down early, assuming we had a track to race on in the first place.
Have a great day and take this time to enjoy family and friends!
Ron
