Folks,
The Fairmont Race is Cancelled for Saturday January 28th, 2017.
Ice conditions have just taken a beating over the weekend with the drizzle and warm temps.
There is still 15 to 16 inches of ice, but the top layer is wet and soft, and they are anticipating about 6 inches of wet snow to hit tomorrow and Wednesday.
The Ice Kuhana will continue for games on the Ice on Saturday.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Hope for some cooler temps so we can enjoy the winter sports!
Thanks!
Ron
The Fairmont is not planned to be rescheduled this year. We have 3 more planned in February and do not want to be scheduled on top of the February 4th race of the Dennis Kirk and St. Germain races. Also, Crane Lake is the first Saturday in March, so that is pretty much a wrap.
Forest Lake Status: Ice looks good at about 17 inches and should freeze more in the next two weeks
Green Bay, WI : 3 weeks away, and they are at about 15 to 16 now. The plan is to drill holes on Saturday to get current data and look at weather forecast. We should know better this coming Monday
Chetek: looking good now at about 17 inches and 4 weeks to go.
That being said, any more heat waves in February or blizzards can impact this status. I don't see that in the forecast now and we are watching.

Folks,
Make sure to spread the word, we are somehow blocked from accessing our website to change the schedule page on the front page. Working on Resolution.
Thanks!
Folks,
Again we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
I know sitting or driving around North of a line across the Metro some are wondering why it was cancelled.
Ice thickness was at 16 to 17 inches going up to a week before the event, so we were keeping the faith that it would make it.
The last few warm days actually attacked the top 2 to 3 inches of real ice as they had minimal snow to start with.
The almost 8 inches of wet snow on Tuesday night only added more water and slush to the top of the ice.
Temps were not cool enough to refreeze the ice we needed to have a race even if we plowed off the slush.
We would have been racing on only about 13 to 14 inches of ice that was fairly stressed from the warm weather and weight of the wet snow.
We do need to the temps to stay below freezing and not get much snow in the next week.
Sorry, I know the ice did firm up north and west of the Twin Cities, so should have been okay to have some events.
Be safe and pay attention to the ice, it does really vary in depth.
Also, just because other people are driving on it doesn't mean nothing, kind of like follow the leader.
Thanks!
Ron
